Please join us Saturday September 27, for a Jewish Contemplative prayer service dedicated to Peace.
This service will be led by two rabbis, Joanna Katz and Jeff Roth, who have spent their lives dedicated to peace - peace in Israel/Palestine and Gaza, peace within our own hearts. We understand that working towards Peace requires ongoing cultivation and dedication.
The Jewish Sabbath, which starts at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday is a day for contemplating the immense beauty and profundity that is this world. It is a day to reflect on our deepest held beliefs and ethics. The Sabbath is a day to gather in community and sing and dance and praise and honor the sacred that binds us together. The Jewish liturgy is built around an understanding that we are all connected to life and the mystery that inspires life. We affirm that all life is sacred and worthy of dignity, respect and celebration.
The Sabbath which falls between Rosh Hashanah/ The Jewish New Year and Yom Kippur/ the Day of Atonement, this year September 27, is a special Sabbath on which we are invited to journey inwards, to connect with our own loving heart, to look deeply at our life over the past year, to seek to repair what has broken, and return to our highest aspirations.
We will use Jewish liturgy and language, accessing the deep wisdom in Judaism, guiding us to connect with our own inner wisdom and love and this service is open and will be accessible to everyone. Chants will be in Hebrew and English. All Hebrew language will be translated and transliterated. This will be a contemplative chanting service; chants punctuated with periods of silence inviting each participant to journey inward to touch into moments of peace and ease, to experience a place of quiet and connection.
